Configure the Ethernet adapter for Giesen Profiler on Windows
How to connect the Giesen roaster to Windows
Use this article to configure the Windows Ethernet adapter for a supported W-series roaster. For the complete connection procedure and confirmed machine details, start with Connect a W series roaster via Ethernet.
Record the adapter’s existing settings before changing them. Use an unused computer address in the same subnet as the confirmed roaster address. Never give the computer the roaster’s address. On a managed network, ask your network administrator for the correct settings.
Direct-connection example
Use this example only if your confirmed roaster address is 172.30.30.50 and its subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. An available computer address could be 172.30.30.230, with the same subnet mask. Other roaster addresses or subnet masks require different settings. Controller version means the roaster’s PLC version, not the Profiler version.
Configure Windows
- Connect the Ethernet cable to the designated roaster network port. Use a suitable Ethernet adapter if your computer has no Ethernet port.
- Open Settings → Network & internet → Ethernet and choose the connection to the roaster.
- Under IP assignment, choose Edit.
- Choose Manual and turn IPv4 on.
- Enter the agreed computer address and subnet mask. Use gateway and DNS details from your network administrator if needed.
- Choose Save.
Menu names vary by Windows version. Older layouts use Change adapter options → adapter Properties → Internet Protocol Version 4 → Properties. See Microsoft’s network settings instructions.
Check network reachability
Open Command Prompt and enter ping followed by the confirmed roaster address, for example ping 172.30.30.50. If no reply arrives, check the cable, adapter, computer address, subnet and actual roaster address. A direct roaster connection may show “no internet”; internet for sign-in or cloud sync must be arranged separately.
Continue in Profiler
A ping response confirms network reachability only. Return to Connect a W series roaster via Ethernet, continue at 4 Add the roaster in Profiler and check current readings against the machine. A new connection attempts to connect when you choose Save.
If you use this adapter on another network later, restore its original settings or follow your network administrator’s instructions. For help, email support@giesen.com with your Profiler version, model, serial number, network setup and exact message.
