How to transfer profiles & roasts (Windows)

This guide covers moving profiles and roast records to another Windows computer. Check your Profiler version before choosing a method.

Current Profiler 2: use cloud synchronisation when available

Current Profiler 2 stores local records in a database. Copying only folders named profiles and roasts is not a complete transfer of the current database.

  1. On the old computer, sign in to the correct GiesenCloud team and allow synchronisation to complete.
  2. Install the current compatible Profiler release on the new computer from GiesenCloud Downloads.
  3. Sign in with the same account and select the same team.
  4. Before retiring the old computer, compare your profiles and roast history and open several records to check their details.
  5. Once the transfer is confirmed, sign out on the old computer.

Cloud synchronisation requires a plan that includes this feature. Local Profiler use is available with the free Essential plan; see current plans.

Local database backup for Profiler 2

If you use Profiler locally without cloud synchronisation, fully quit Profiler before making a backup. On Windows, open File Explorer, enter %APPDATA%\giesen-profiler-2 in the address bar and copy the complete db_storage folder to a safe location.

Keep the original computer and its data until the transfer has been checked. Copying a database replaces records; it does not merge two computers. Back up any existing data on the destination and contact Giesen Support for the appropriate restore procedure for your versions and installation type.

Legacy JSON files: profiles and roasts folders

The following applies only when your old installation actually contains JSON records in the Giesen-Profiler\profiles and Giesen-Profiler\roasts folders.

  1. Fully quit the old application. In File Explorer, open %APPDATA%\Giesen-Profiler.
  2. Copy the profiles and roasts folders to a flash drive and keep a backup of the originals.
  3. On the destination computer, preserve any existing files before copying the legacy folders. Do not overwrite records you need to keep.
  4. In a Profiler 2 installation that supports the legacy import, open Settings > Advanced. Follow the available migration actions in order: Migrate profiles, Migrate roasts, then Sync Filesystem.
  5. Compare the imported records and their details with the original installation.

Legacy folder discovery depends on the app version and installation type. If the folders or migration actions are missing, contact Support before moving or deleting data.
