Problem

The residual current device (RCD) providing standard personnel protection (30 mA) may trip when the roaster is switched on or off.

This behavior is typically caused by leakage current within the electrical installation. Leakage currents from other equipment connected to the same circuit can accumulate and cause nuisance tripping. In most cases, this is not a fault of the roaster itself.

As Giesen roasters comply with IEC 62423 requirements, the solution below can be applied.


Solution

Install the roaster on a dedicated electrical circuit protected by its own Type B or Type F residual current device (RCD) with a rating higher than 30 mA. Giesen recommends using a 300 mA RCD.

  • Type B RCDs protect against AC, pulsating DC, and smooth DC residual currents.
  • Type F RCDs are designed for circuits with variable-frequency drives (VFDs) and inverter-controlled loads.

Both types are suitable for this application.

Giesen cannot specify the exact RCD rating required, as this depends on the total leakage current present within the installation. A qualified electrician should assess the site and determine the most appropriate protection device for the specific installation.
