Plan and roast batches with Giesen Profiler
Plan a batch, publish it when it is ready, and load it from Roast Planning in Giesen Profiler. After roasting, check the saved roast and the planning status.
Subscription required
Roast Planning is included in the Commercial and Industrial plans. View plans.
Each planning entry represents one batch. To roast the same coffee three times, create three entries with the same profile.
Before you start
You need:
- A GiesenCloud account with Roast Planning access.
- Internet access to create, edit and publish planning entries.
- A roaster configured in Profiler, with the correct connection selected.
- A saved profile available in GiesenCloud under the account or team you use in Profiler.
If you do not have a profile yet, follow Create and edit a roast profile, then check that it has uploaded to GiesenCloud.
Before running the batch, connect the roaster and check its current readings. Use a profile and batch size suitable for your machine and coffee.
1 Create a draft batch
- In Profiler, select the connection for the roaster you want to plan.
- Open Roast Planning in the navigation menu.
- Select Drafts, then New draft.
- Complete the fields below.
Field What to enter Profile Type the profile name and select it from the list. Roaster model Select the roaster that will run the batch. Check this even if a roaster is already selected. Planned at Choose the roasting date. This field sets a date, not a start time. Batch size Enter the green coffee weight for this one batch. Check the displayed unit: g, kg or lb. Description Add an optional instruction, such as a coffee lot or order reference. - Select Save draft.
Check: the entry appears under Drafts with the expected profile, roaster and batch size.
You can also start from Profiles: open a profile and select Plan profile. The profile is already selected in the planning dialog.
2 Check and publish the batch
- Under Drafts, find the entry and select Edit if you need to change its date, roaster, batch size or description.
- Select Save draft after editing.
- When the details are correct, select Publish on the entry.
- Select Published to view the published planning.
Save draft keeps the entry in preparation. Publish makes it available for the roasting workflow; it does not start the roaster or begin a recording.
You can also select Publish directly in the new-draft dialog if the batch is ready.
The profile is fixed when editing an existing draft. If you selected the wrong profile, create a draft with the correct profile and remove the incorrect draft before publishing it.
3 Load the planned batch
- On the roasting day, connect Profiler to the roaster assigned to the batch.
- Open Roast Planning → Published. Select Not Roasted in Status to focus on unfinished batches.
- Select the batch row. Its profile details open on the right.
- Check the profile, Planned at, batch size, roaster and description. Review the profile's setpoints, triggers and any enabled Between Batch Profile (BBP) before loading. Loading can apply starting setpoints if Initialize setpoints on profile load is enabled.
- Select Load profile.
- If the Inventory dialog opens, select the actual coffee lot and quantity for this batch, then confirm your selection.
Check: the dashboard shows the loaded profile and a planning reference with its row number.
Load the batch through Roast Planning so the recording is linked to that planning entry. Loading the same profile from Profiles alone does not select the planned batch.
Check the actual green coffee weight before starting. The planned Batch size and the profile's saved Start Weight can differ; check the inventory quantity and the recorded batch details.
4 Roast the batch and check the result
- Check the loaded planning reference and live readings. Follow the start settings in Use a saved roast profile before charging; charge detection and start delay can change when playback starts.
- Prepare the roaster and charge the beans according to your machine procedure.
- At the charge moment, open Play options and choose the mode for this roast:
- Play as Reference displays the profile while you control the roaster.
- Play runs the profile's saved setpoints and triggers on supported controls.
- Follow the timer and live readings. See Use a saved roast profile for the detailed playback, start and stop procedure.
- At discharge, finish the recording with Stop if Profiler has not already stopped it through discharge detection. Follow the save or roast-details window that appears and resolve any saving error.
- In the roast-details window, check Start Weight against the measured green coffee weight. After cooling, enter the measured End Weight and select Save. The button appears when you change a value.
- Return to Roast Planning → Published. Clear the Status filter, or choose Roasted, and refresh the list.
Check: the batch has a check mark in Roasted, and the saved roast contains the correct curve and batch details. Profiler updates the planning after the roast has saved to the cloud; check cloud synchronisation if the entry remains unfinished.
Profiler may load another unfinished planning entry for the same profile after saving. Before the next batch, check the planning reference and batch details again. Loading the next profile does not by itself start a roast.
An enabled BBP can run after a roast ends, including after Play as Reference. See Use Between Batch Profile for its separate controls.
If something does not match
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| Roast Planning is missing | Check the signed-in account or team and its planning access. If access should be available, contact support. |
| The profile is missing from Profile | Check that it is uploaded to GiesenCloud under the same account or team. |
| Save draft or Publish is unavailable | Select a profile and roaster, choose a date and enter a batch size greater than zero. |
| A draft disappears after publishing | Open Published. Published entries leave the draft list. |
| The published batch is missing | Check its planned date, assigned roaster, selected connection and Status filter. Select the refresh button. |
| Load profile is unavailable | Check whether a roast is already running or the selected batch is already marked roasted. |
| The roast is saved but planning still shows unfinished | Check the roast's cloud sync status and refresh planning. Follow Resolve cloud synchronisation problems. |
| Internet is unavailable | Restore the connection before creating or publishing plans. The desktop app can display previously cached planning, but that does not confirm the cloud has received the completed roast. |
