Use Between Batch Profile (BBP) in Giesen Profiler 2
Create a Between Batch Profile (BBP) to replay your planned settings between two batches. A BBP belongs to a roast profile and has its own timeline, setpoints, and optional triggers.
You can build a BBP before you have recorded a roast. Start with a saved profile, add the Between Batch section and enter the settings from your established roasting procedure.
Before you start
- Connect your roaster and check that Profiler shows current readings.
- Choose the profile you will use for the batches. If you do not have one yet, follow Create and edit a roast profile.
- Use values appropriate for your roaster and roasting procedure. An enabled BBP can send settings to the roaster as soon as the previous roast recording ends, including settings at 00:00.
Check BBP separately from roast playback. Play as Reference keeps the roast profile's setpoints and triggers passive, but an enabled BBP can still run when that roast ends. To manage the interval manually, select Disable BBP in the profile and save it before loading.
1. Create the BBP
- Open Profiles, select the profile you want to use, and choose Edit profile.
- In the Editor, open the Between Batch tab.
- Select Create if this profile does not have a BBP yet.
- Check the status. A newly created BBP is enabled. Select Disable BBP while you prepare it if you do not want it to run yet.
- Set Duration to the length of your planned between-batch timeline.
Duration is the planned timeline length, not an automatic stop or a temperature target. The session can continue beyond it. Put changes you want to replay before the end of the timeline; a setpoint placed exactly at Duration is not replayed.
2. Add the between-batch settings
- Show the BBP chart with View BBP Chart if it is hidden.
- Select the Between Batch focus button above the chart. This determines which timeline you are editing.
- Open Setpoints, choose the setting you want to change and select Add.
- Enter Time and Value, then select Add in the form. Use 00:00 for a setting that should apply as soon as BBP starts.
- Repeat for the changes in your procedure. The times count from the start of BBP: 01:00 means one minute after the previous roast recording ended.
- Return to the Between Batch tab. Select Enable BBP if it is disabled and ready to run, then select the main Save button to save the complete profile.
Reopen the profile and check the BBP status, duration and points before using it on the roaster. A chart with readings alone is a reference; automatic setting changes require setpoints or triggers.
Optional: With Between Batch selected as the editor focus, use BBP Triggers for changes that depend on a condition. Start with a simple plan and see How to use triggers for conditions and actions.
3. Run BBP between two batches
- Load the saved profile on the dashboard and check its BBP configuration before starting the first batch.
- Start and record the roast using your normal workflow. See Use a saved roast profile for roast playback.
- End the roast recording at the correct point in your procedure. Profiler starts the between-batch session for the selected profile and displays its readings alongside the roast reference. An enabled BBP starts applying its planned settings.
- Watch the readings and actual roaster response while you prepare the next batch. Check that the roaster is ready before charging.
- Start the next roast recording. This ends the BBP session and begins the new roast timeline.
4. End BBP when you finish roasting
Select the dashboard control with the End BBP tooltip when you finish roasting. This ends the session and stops further BBP playback.
Ending BBP does not shut down the roaster or restore the settings that were active before BBP. Follow your normal roaster shutdown procedure.
Profiler also ends the session when Between-batch timeout is reached without a new roast starting. Find it under Settings → General → Automation. The default is 15 minutes. This timeout is separate from Duration and does not shut down the roaster.
Common questions
Can I use BBP without a previous roast?
Yes. Create a saved profile, add its Between Batch section and enter your own setpoints. A previous roast is not required to build the plan.
How do I keep the plan but stop it from running?
Open the profile's Between Batch tab, select Disable BBP and save the profile. This keeps the BBP data for later editing. A between-batch recording session may still appear, but the disabled plan is not replayed. Use Remove BBP only when you want to remove the configuration from the profile.
Can I reuse the BBP from another profile?
Yes. In the Between Batch tab, choose Copy from Profile, select a profile with a BBP and check the copied duration, setpoints and triggers. Check whether it is enabled, then save the destination profile. Copying replaces the destination's BBP configuration, so use Save as first if you need to preserve the original.
Why is a BBP setting not applied?
Check that you saved the correct profile, the BBP is enabled and the roaster is connected. Confirm that the point belongs to the BBP timeline and is scheduled before Duration. Also check that the next roast or the timeout did not end the session before that point. For a trigger, check its condition and available roaster actions.
Where does the recorded between-batch data go?
When you start the next roast using the same profile, Profiler carries the completed between-batch data into that next roast. End BBP and the timeout end the session without carrying it into a subsequent roast. Use the same profile through the interval if you want that recording linked to the next batch.
