Founded by Lorenzo and Stephanie Rigano, Rigano Kaffee began not behind a cupping table, but working on fully automatic coffee machines. Lorenzo’s fascination with the inner workings of coffee technology sparked early on. At the time, it was a bit unconventional. Fixing and fine-tuning fully automatics wasn’t exactly common, but it laid the foundation. The technical mindset that drove those early days still defines the way Rigano Kaffee roasts today.
The shift to roasting
In 2009, the Riganos decided to dive deeper into coffee, but this time as roasters. What started as a fascination with machines expanded into a passion for the entire coffee chain. Seeing coffee as a natural product, understanding where it comes from, and realizing the potential to shape its profile.
When choosing roasting equipment, Giesen was a clear fit. The W15A was their starting point offering the right mix of control, consistency, and support. For Rigano, it mattered that the machines weren’t just reliable but also accessible, built with thought. Over time, the setup grew: a W30A, a WPG1 sample roaster, and most recently, a large silo system installed in 2024.
“We wanted machines we could understand inside and out. Giesen gave us that, and more importantly, they backed us with real support when it counted.”
Coffee with responsibility
The more time Lorenzo and Stephanie spent in coffee, the clearer one thing became: this product has a long story before it reaches the roaster. Visiting origin countries brought that story into focus. The time, labor, and people behind every bean shifted their perspective. And it raised a question: how do we give something back? That led to the creation of their own nonprofit initiative, focused on supporting communities at origin directly. No middlemen. Just practical help, sent where it’s needed.
Now, nearly 25 years into their journey, Rigano Kaffee is still grounded in the same values they started with: a love for good coffee, a respect for the process, and a hands-on approach to every step of the work.
